MPT - Multistate Performance Test

The MPT is a skills-based test. It consists of three skills questions that must be completed within 90-minutes each. The MPT covers topics related to the resolution of ethical dilemmas, fact analysis and problem solving, legal anaylsis, and communication.

MPT Basics

Each of the three skill questions on the MPT consist of a File and a Library and is essentially a case. The File contains all the facts of the case including transcripts of interviews, hearings, trials, pleadings, depositions, contracts, etc... The File contains information needed to complete the question as well as irrevelant and even conflicting information.

The Library contains cases, statutes, rules and regulations. Some of these will not pertain to the case, but within the Library is all the material needed to complete the task.

Test takers will need to sort through the material and determine what is relevant to complete the task. They will need to communicate the completed task in writing. Tasks include assignments such as writing the following; a proposal for an agreement, a will, a statement or facts. or a closing argument.

The MPT is offered during February and July each year.

MPT Jursidictions
