The GED Online: What You Need to Know

The internet is an incredibly vast and seemingly endless resource for many different things, including the GED test. However, if you've ever stumbled across a site that offers to let you take GED test on line, remember the old saying, "buyer beware."  As of now, it’s not possible to take the actual GED test online via any website.  Anyone claiming otherwise is more than likely a scam artist trying to sell fake diplomas – something that definitely won't help you get into college or land the job of your dreams.  However, there are plenty of legitimate on line resources that can help you prepare to take the GED exam.

Online GED Resources

Any online GED resource that you use to help prepare for the actual GED should cover all of the same subjects as the exam. This will give you an accurate preview of what to expect before taking the examination at one of the many GED testing centers located throughout the U.S. and Canada.  Use the following facts about the GED test to decide whether or not you feel the online resource you're using to study or the online GED pretest you're taking, will truly prepare you for the "real thing" in the future:

GED Reading: This 45 question section of the GED test is devoted to testing whether or not you’re able to comprehend and read both stories and poems, touching on the most prominent figures and facts in literature and the arts.

GED Math: Preparing for the GED test online should involve studying all aspects of basic math including decimals, fractions, and percentages.

GED Science: To be fully prepared for the 66 multiple-choice science questions on the GED test, be sure to study subjects such as biology, chemistry, as well as both earth and physical sciences.

GED Social Studies: Studying for the GED online or enrolling in online courses should cover social studies and the related topics such as reading charts and maps, and being familiar with geography and important events throughout history.

Writing: The writing portion of the test will involve both 55 multiple-choice questions and another section where you’ll be required to write a 200-word essay.  The multiple-choice section will cover areas such as basic grammar, punctuation, spelling, and also sentence structure.

Facts About Online GED Courses

Online GED courses can be extremely valuable for both the pretest and the actual examination as they allow you to get ready for the GED at home without the distraction of others nearby.  They also give you a structured set of guidelines to follow in order to be as prepared as possible for the test.  Online courses are also ideal for those with very little free time or who work full-time hours and wouldn't otherwise be able to attend GED courses in a traditional brick-and-mortar school.

In addition, because of the recent explosion in numbers of the many colleges and universities who offer courses and degrees via the internet, taking an online GED course can help prepare you for furthering your education in the same way – by sitting comfortably at home with your own computer while earning a degree.

Free GED Test Online

Lastly, you can even take an online GED practice test. Many of these are even available to you for free. Many websites offer you the ability to take a free GED test online. Most of these sites are sponsored by advertisers. Especially when there is no cost to you, taking a GED practice test from one of these free resources is a fantastic idea.
