Taking GMAT Classes

If you plan to take the GMAT test to attend business school, good preparation is critical for ensuring that you get the best score possible on the test.  One of the most common ways to prepare for the exam is with traditional GMAT preparation classes.

There are several different programs that offer intensive eight- to twelve-week GMAT classes for people who are about to take the test.  If you're someone who learns best in a small classroom setting where you can discuss the different aspects of the test with students and teachers, paying the price for a GMAT prep course will be well worth it.  However, make sure that this is something you can dedicate your time and energy to – skipping sessions due to scheduling conflicts won't help you do better on the exam!

One of the most popular GMAT classes offered comes from the Kaplan test prep company.  This well organized test preparation group offers GMAT prep courses all over the country.  You'll attend nine classroom sessions which focus on the most important areas of the exam.  The program also allows you take a practice exam in an actual testing facility, using the same computer program as the real test.  If you take a class through Kaplan, you'll also have access to free online resources, like practice tests, test-taking strategies and other tips and tricks.

Another popular GMAT course is offered by the Princeton Review.  They also offer small classroom settings in almost every major city.  Their classes are set up on an eight week schedule and you'll attend GMAT classes once a week for three hours at a time.   During this time you'll go over the material and take practice tests in the same manner as the Kaplan GMAT courses.  The courses will also teach you to better navigate and work within the time constraints of the test so that you'll be able to perform your best no matter how nervous you are on exam day.

Committing to a GMAT prep course is not something you should consider lightly, though.  The cost alone is enough to make a person think twice about what they're getting out of the class.  The Kaplan prep course costs close to $1500 – or $166 per individual class session.  The Princeton Review course is a little bit less expensive at $1400 – or $175 per session.  This course also gives you the option of applying for a low interest student loan through the MyRichUncle program to cover the cost of the program.

While each of these classes has very distinct advantages for those who are serious about taking the GMAT, it's up to each individual to find out what will work best for them.  You'll need to decide which classroom setting and schedule works best for your schedule and your life.  However, if you feel that going through a GMAT prep course will greatly boost your chances of earning a higher score, then you should definitely consider the financial investment well worth it.
