SAT Subject Tests (SAT II tests) cover specific subject areas. An SAT Subject Test can be used for college admission purposes (depending on the college you plan to apply for) and for course placement. Many colleges only require either the SAT Reasoning Test or the ACT test, but depending on where you plan to apply, you may need to take an SAT II Test. Check the admission requirements for the college or university you plan to apply to.
Generally speaking, the SAT Subject Tests are one-hour, multiple-choice exams. However, this can vary. The Language tests consist of both a listening and reading section. You must bring in an acceptable CD player with a headset in order to take these exams. The Math Subject Tests require the use of a scientific or graphing calculator.
The SAT Subject Tests fit into one of five general subject areas; English, Language, History, Science and Mathematics.
Although many colleges and universities do not require SAT Subject tests, you may still send them your scores as they showcase your academic background. It's suggested that you take the tests after you complete the course in High School. As a guideline, you should plan to take at least 2 years of a foreign language before taking one of the Language tests.
